Support-U – Home Respite Support Project @Hong Kong Island


  • Reduce the stress of the carers and provide proper care to the seniors by tangible home respite service.
  • Create a new job “Alternative Carer” in the market, demonstrate a new mode of home respite service to fill the service gap.
  • Providing different kinds of support to carers in the short run, and also bridging services for their care recipients (the frail seniors) to secure their long-term care.
  • Advocating the need of “weekly/regular respite services” for the stressful carers and to arouse the public concern about the carer’s need.



  1. Caregivers of seniors aged 60 or above who are living in Hong Kong Island.


  2. Hong Kong residents aged 18 or above who are interested to provide service to elderly.



  • Alternative Carer training course: After completing 24 hours of training, you can become an alternative carer with an hourly salary of $85.
  • Caregiver Support Network: Build up a community network for carers with mutual support and caring.
  • In-home respite service: Provide “care leave” and create respite space for those carers in need.
  • Experience sharing: Experienced carers share their caregiving experiences to support new carers.
  • Public Education: Promote the concept of "respite service" and the new occupation of "Alternative carer".
  • Develop care plan: Social worker would provide different elderly information to carers to develop their tailor-made care plans.
